November 2011 Stats
29 Nov 2011 by TuxAdminDeployments
This month, Tuxlite scripts were downloaded a total of 172 times. Not counting the last day of the month.
For OS preference, 55% of them were Debian scripts and 45% Ubuntu.
In terms of webserver preference, 44% downloads were Nginx scripts and 56% Apache.
Most if not all the popular PHP scripts work perfectly with Nginx, so it
does seem rather pointless to run Apache today. Nonetheless, Apache
configured with mpm_worker/event and PHP-FPM would still perform quite
well, especially in the shared hosting environment where htaccess
support is still very much needed.
Call For Help
Majority of the emails I get on installation problems are from the those
using OpenVZ. OpenVZ hosting providers mainly still use the old OVZ
2.6.18 kernel so Debian 6 / Ubuntu templates don't work too well. Best
to spend a bit more for KVM or Xen if you're planning to get a
trouble-free VPS.
The rest of the emails are usually to ask how to get Wordpress permalinks working with Nginx. Not many realize that permalinks support is built into Tuxlite scripts, so its a matter of uncommenting one line and restarting Nginx. Refer to the short tutorial for more details. http://tuxlite.com/2011/11/wordpress-permalinks-with-nginx/
There were also some hilarious emails/rant from disgruntled ex-users of
a VPS management website that apparently charges for setup scripts that
doesn't work. Fortunately, it was only something like $10/year so it
wasn't a terribly expensive lesson.

Donations
The donations so far has ranged from $1 to $20. Thanks again folks for the generosity!
Curiously, I wonder what happens if someone donates 1 cent, because Paypal charges something like 60cents (transaction fee) for donations. Would I end up owing Paypal money?? =)
